It’s #WICweek and we are celebrating some of our fabulous members. Let’s meet Jacqueline Osman Project Manager with NEI New England Infrastructure!
Hi Jackie! What brought you to NAWIC?
While at a career fair for my employer, New England Infrastructure Inc, my co-worker Megan was approached by a NAWIC member. Megan and I immediately researched the organization and knew that it would be an excellent, and much needed opportunity for us both! I've worked in the heavy high/civil construction industry for over a decade and while the industry has made great strides in diversity, it is still lacking in women representation. Seeing women in leadership roles, and working with women in general, was few and far between for most of my career. I had to become the representation I always wished I had. It appears that NAWIC is a group I had been missing all these years as well! When I joined in October of 2024, I hoped that NAWIC would be an opportunity for me to develop my skills, find comradery with other strong women leaders, and learn how to best represent women in leadership roles. I can confidently say it has been all of that and more!
Right on! Who was the NAWIC member so we can give them their recruitment. bonus? ;-)
What do you do with NEI?
Currently, I am developing a new Scheduling Department for NEI. NEI is a relatively young company; established in 2002 it is less than 25 years old. I joined the team in 2011 where only 6 of us were in the office. However, during my 13 years at NEI we have evolved in project size, complexity, and capacity. This growth and evolution have required scaling up of all resources including internal scheduling capability and expanding all roles within our talented team. I'm excited to take on this new opportunity to develop our scheduling sector and meet the newest needs of the company. Additionally, because I have a great passion for helping folks jumpstart their careers (especially students), and I genuinely enjoy finding the industry's best to join our team, I also currently head our student Internship Program and lead our full-time Recruitment Operations.
Members Supporting students.. we love that!
How did you get started in Heavy Construction?
My degree is in Civil Engineering. A pursuit of this degree was inspired by the Borne & Sagamore bridges that connect Cape Cod. Spending childhood summers on Cape Cod, and traveling over these bridges to get there, they always sparked my STEM curiosities. The more I learned about the design and construction process, the more interested in the field of Civil Engineering I became. I pursued my civil degree at Wentworth Insitute of Technology, where I also participated in various student internships. My internship on the execution side of bridge construction solidified my long-term career goals in the heavy construction industry. There is nothing more gratifying than being part of the team that builds a tangible structure that also positively and directly impacts the community!
What do you do when you’re not building bridges?
My favorite time spent outside of building bridges is with family. I head to the Cape a few times a month visiting my parents, sister, and nieces and nephew, where we go on adventures finding the hidden jewels of Cape Cod or cooking big family dinners together. My husband and I are unofficial "foodies", and we love exploring new restaurants around town. During the summer and shoulder seasons we take our golden retriever/border collie mix, Tango, hiking around New England. Outside of spending time with my family and pets, I love to watch a good psychological drama, bake pastries and deserts, participate in volunteer work, go to summer concerts (Newport Folk Fest is my favorite), tend to my vegetable garden, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
Any NAWIC events or activities you’re looking forward to?
Yes! I'm looking forward to the WIC Week Kick Off event at Splitsville!! I am a fairly new member to NAWIC (October 2024) so I can't wait to meet the other chapters and continue to build relationships with everyone in the Greater Worcester chapter!
Anything interesting you like to do? Favorite place to travel? or Your secret super-power?!
I'm a big fan of daily meditation and find it incredibly enriching to my life. It has not only benefited my personal growth but has helped me navigate stressful periods during my career.
Namaste, Jackie! we’re so happy that you and NEI are a part of NAWIC!
